Maribel Hernandez could be the first person to ever be a teacher in the Perry school district while being the head coach of a sport at Greene County. Hernandez has lived in Perry much of her life, but taught Spanish at Greene County High School before joining the Perry school district for the current school year. She maintained her position as the Rams’ head coach of the girls’ soccer program. A minor adjustment has been practices starting a bit later than previous years to account for the driving time between Perry and Jefferson.
Hernandez told Raccoon Valley Radio a good share of experience returns for the Rams, which she hopes will translate into more victories. The Greene County girls have one victory in each of the past two seasons.
The Rams will scrimmage West Central Valley tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Jefferson at Linduska Field before opening the regular season on March 26 in Jefferson vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines).
