Two Adel farm locations were recently given Choose Iowa Value-Added Grants.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig recently announced that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship handed out 26 grants to Iowa farmers or small businesses and nonprofits in 22 counties totaling $463,000. Two of the 26 grants were given to families in Adel. According to a press release, the first was to Golden Outdoors LLC in the amount of $25,000 to customize an existing building for aquaculture and to add infrastructure to raise white shrimp. The total project budget was $70,000.

Another grant went to the Wills Family Orchard for $22,927 to convert a portion of an existing warehouse into cold storage to extend the seasonal availability of apples. The land stewardship reports that this total project budget is $45,854 and for Iowa they have now served 67 projects for $1,174,000.
