Long time Senator Mitch McConnell will be stepping down from his position at the end of the year, and Senator Joni Ernst shares kind words about him.

McConnell is the longest-serving senator in history, being in office since 1985. He recently announced that he’ll be retiring in November. Senator Ernst tells Raccoon Valley Radio that McConnell is one of the greatest floor strategists she’s ever witnessed. She says it’s a quality she hasn’t seen in other majority leaders she’s worked with.

“He really knew how to operate and manage a floor, and I have not seen that, I served a little bit with Harry Reid, I never saw that there. I have not seen it from Chuck Schummer, but he really did know how to move different bills with different topics.”

Ernst offers condolences for losing his sister-in-law, as well as acknowledging his health, potentially making a tough decision to walk away. McConell will serve the remainder of his term until November.
