Iowa Legislators have finally passed their education related bills.

Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that the education bill was sent back to the Senate with some amendments from the House the Thursday after the second funnel week ended. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that that version, with some amendments from the Senate and Governor, is what was finally passed.

“They combined basically three bills into one. They put the teacher compensation in, the SSA (State Supplemental Aid) in, and then the AEA (Area Education Agency) bill that had kind of been a compromise worked on between the House, the Senate and the governor. After we killed the governor’s first AEA proposal, the House Education Committee went to work in creating an AEA bill of their own. Most of those provisions survived, but the Senate and the governor had their say on some of the minor changes.”

Sorensen mentions that the bill arranges for a task force to study the AEA’s and see where there could be improvements, or areas where funding could be moved around. He adds that there was also some special education oversight included in the bill.
