There are a few reminders for Greene County 4-H’ers as there is about three months until this year’s county fair.
Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the dog project meetings are underway. The 4-H’ers showing dogs are meeting every Monday until July 1st, except for Memorial Day, from 6-8pm at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Even though 4-H’ers are required to attend a minimum of five classes to show at the county fair, Hardaway urges 4-H’ers to do more.
“This is a great opportunity for youth planning to exhibit dogs at the Greene County Fair to come and practice and experience what you’re going to do at the Greene County Fair in those classes. You are required to attend at least five but absolutely please attend more because it is a great learning opportunity to just gain obedience skills, socialization, and get your dog into agility and other opportunities within the dog show world.”
Hardaway points out that swine ear tags are available at the Greene County Extension Office for $3 and if a 4-H’er is showing at the Iowa State Fair, they must pay $8 for an DNA tag. She adds that sheep and goat weigh-ins will take place on May 4th at the Sheep Barn on the Fairgrounds from 7:30-11am.
