A multi-week program with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department will help get you trained for the Ding Dong Dash at the Bell Tower Festival.
JPRD Assistant Director Nathan Kral says Rams on the Run has two different sections to the program. One part is more of a track style format foonur Wednesdays from 5-6pm from April 10th-May 1st and that is for kindergarten through sixth graders. The other part is focused on more of a cross country style with longer distances, which will be on five Sundays from April 14th-May 19th from 6-7pm for third through sixth graders.
Kral points out the track program will be led by Chad Morton and Derek Merk with the high school track team and Jeff Lamoureux, the high school cross country coach, will be the instructor for the running program. He explains some other benefits of participating in Rams on the Run.
“Another thing that comes with this, you can get a free registration into the Bell Tower (Festival), the Ding Dong Dash 5K Run, along with one parent. With the running part on Wednesdays is on the last Wednesday, May 1st they can qualify for the Iowa Live Healthy State Track Meet. And that is in Marshalltown in June. So if they get first or second place in their age group they qualify for state.”
Kral adds for the Sunday program, parents are invited to run with their child. Both programs will take place at the high school track in Jefferson. The cost to participate is $30 for Greene County Community Center members and $35 for non-members. The deadline to register is today by calling them at 515-386-3412 or clicking the link below.
