It is National Library Week and this year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Library.”

Jefferson Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount interprets the theme to mean that it is about connections.

“When it comes to National Library Week. this time around, it’s just really focusing on that shared connection and that shared communal space, and how we can all be together and connect, despite being from so many different places and so many different paths.”

Mount talks about the Innovation Station and how there are crafts and other things that youth who are fifth grade and older can do.

“We have a cricket (and) we have 3D pens. I recently had a donation for one of those backlit tracing pads, so the kids are starting to their own drawings (and) they can go origami over there. So it’s really just about providing them a space where they can be alone.”

Additionally on Wednesday and Thursday for kindergarten through eighth grade students can do different Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts. and Math (STEAM) activities from 3:30-5:30pm for the Iowa Public Broadcasting System (PBS) Day. Mount urges anyone who doesn’t have a library card that they can get one for free and check out items from the library.
