Greene County and Panorama met on the soccer pitch on Monday night and the schools split the varsity non-conference matches.

Greene County rode a whopping nine goals from senior Gesser Gutierres and the Rams won the boys’ match at Linduska Field in Jefferson by a final of 12-2 via the 10-goal rule. Just 5 minutes, 12 seconds had ticked off the clock in the second half when the game was stopped after the Rams led 9-2 at intermission. Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are 4-0 on the season and they host Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) tonight at 7 p.m. at Linduska Field. The Rams have scored 35 goals this season and allowed just six. Gutierres set a new personal scoring record for the third time this season with the nine goals and he’s now totaled 26 this season and 95 for his career. He leads all of Iowa in goals, points scored, and goal percentage. Senior Nathan Behne scored twice to put him at seven for the season and one goal was scored by sophomore Carter Hinote, the first of the season for him, and the first scored by a non-senior for the Rams.

Panorama improved to 6-0 in girls’ soccer while the Rams fell to 0-3 after a 10-0 Panthers’ victory in Panora. Panorama led 9-0 at halftime and added a tenth goal in the second half to end the game by the 10-goal margin rule. Greene County held the Panthers scoreless for 29 minutes of the second half. Maribel Hernandez, the head coach of the Rams, reported that goalkeeper Lucy Vander Linden had 14 saves for the Rams and Chanlyn Cunningham had a shot on goal. The Rams play tonight in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic.
