A free program with the Greene County Historical Society is coming up that highlights a famous Dallas County gun fight from the 1930s.
Greene County Historical Society Co-Director Mike Piepel says Rod Stanley of Panora, a retired history teacher, will be covering the events of a shootout with Bonnie and Clyde at Dexfield on July 24, 1933. Piepel tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is going to be a historical program that people shouldn’t miss.
‘“My wife Diane and I had been working very closely with Mr. Stanley regarding the shootout at Dexfield Park in Dexter, it’s such a historical significance. Rod is a well-known individual as far as historian on the Bonnie and Clyde shootout, as well as their moments in crime throughout the United States.”
The free program takes place on Sunday at 2pm at the Historical Museum in Jefferson. Piepel adds that to coincide with this program will be a special two-night showing of the 1967 movie, “Bonnie and Clyde” next Wednesday and Thursday at the Sierra Community Theatre.
