The Perry Police Department will be apart of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Take Back Day today.

In observance of the day, the police department is inviting residents to drop off any expired or unwanted prescription or over the counter medications. Dallas County Health Department’s Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the department is giving people a safe disposal site. She provides examples of items that the police department is accepting and denying.

“They are taking prescription medications, patches, ointments, pet medications, and then over the counter drugs are accepted as well. They will not be accepting syringes, inhalers, or aerosols.”

People are encouraged to drop off their medications today between 10am and 2pm at the Perry Police Department, 908 Willis Avenue. However, Peters stresses that if people can’t make it to the police department today, then there are other permanent options available in Dallas County including the Adel Health Mart, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and Perry’s HyVee.
