Greene County qualified one event for the 2024 Drake Relays and it tkaes to the blue oval this morning. It’s the 4 x 100 meter relay for boys with preliminaries starting shortly after 10 a.m. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Relays accepts the fastest 96 entries and the Rams qualified 95th with a time of 44.84 seconds. Since qualifying, the quartet of seniors Trey Schilling and Nathan Behne, along with sophomores Broc Stream and Nick Madsen have lowered their time to 44.47 seconds, which head coach Chad Morton tells Raccoon Valley Radio is the fastest time Greene County has recorded in 12 years.
Only the eight fastest teams advance from the prelim this morning to the finals this afternoon. The Relays were halted twice by bad weather on Friday, and the preliminaries of the 4 x 400 were called off on Friday night when Des Moines was under a tornado warning.
All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have updates today on the progress of area high school athletes at the Drake Relays.
