Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team responded to reports of thunderstorms and tornado warnings Friday night.

Severe weather was in the Raccoon Valley Radio’s listening area Friday evening as the SWAT team provided live coverage for nearly two hours. The team started the live broadcast at about 7:10pm Friday as the National Weather Service reported tornadic events in the Creston area. A thunderstorm warning was issued for Northwestern Greene County at 7:26pm, which then was upgraded to a tornado watch at 7:47pm, along with Guthrie and Dallas counties.

At 8:20pm, a tornado warning was issued for the southeastern portion of Dallas County as the NWS spotted a possible tornado near Cumming moving northeast at 40 mph. The NWS confirmed that the tornado moved out of Dallas County at 8:45pm, then the SWAT team ended the broadcast at 8:51pm as the threat moved out of the coverage area.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Marcus Mackey called in four times to provide updates of the conditions in Stuart, where he saw heavy rain but not too much movement in terms of tornadic events. Also, Weatherology called in several times throughout the broadcast to give updates in surrounding counties.

There were five employees of Raccoon Valley Radio that assisted with the broadcast. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage until the storms move out of the coverage area or drop below severe levels.
