With the 2024 Iowa legislative session over, some legislators are looking back on the session.

Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that there were a few bills that piqued his interest over session. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that several were from the Economic Growth / Technology Committee that he chairs, including on increasing cellular coverage.

“You know, where everybody’s complaining about cell phone coverage and how fast their broadband internet is, and things like that. So I’m always working on infrastructure. How can we better facilitate Iowans’ needs for internet consumption? And so, always trying to boost that, and that’s a good agreement to continue. That’s passed both chambers, but hasn’t been signed by the Governor yet.”

Sorensen adds that his committee was also able to put out their annual Iowa Economic Development Authority bill, which just reevaluates and reissues tools and technical abilities for the IEDA to be able to better help Iowans, and that the bill had also reached the governor’s desk. He adds that the governor does have line item veto and veto power, so just because the bills are out of the legislature, doesn’t mean they can’t come back or be signed into law.
