Portions of the Raccoon Valley Radio area experienced severe weather Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 5:39pm for southeastern Greene County, northwestern Dallas County, and northeastern Guthrie County. During the warning, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team interrupted regular programming to bring live coverage of the storm.
During the warning, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office reported one- to three-quarter inch hail in western and northwestern portions of the county, along with heavy rainfall and 50-60 mph winds. Weatherology confirmed quarter inch size hail in Bagley by a trained weather spotter, and dime size hail was reported by a listener in Berkeley. No immediate reports of damage.
Five Raccoon Valley Radio staff, along with Weatherology, a listener and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office helped provide live coverage until the thunderstorm warning expired at 6:30pm. According to the National Weather Service, a tornado watch remains in effect for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties until 10pm.
