A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for forgery.

According to court documents. 41-year-old Christopher Quirk pled guilty to a Class D Felony for forgery and an aggravated misdemeanor for fourth degree theft. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the felony charge and two years in prison for the aggravated misdemeanor. The sentences were to be served concurrently for a total of five years.

The charges stemmed from when two checks were deposited by Quirk from another person’s account. Court documents show the Jefferson Police Department investigated the two incidents, where one check was for $800 on August 14th and $400 on August 28th and it was proven that Quirk forged the signature of the victim.

As per the plea agreement, another Class D Felony for forgery and two  aggravated misdemeanors for identity theft were dismissed.
