Iowa Representative in the 28th District David Young provides insight on the bills he’s happy that passed the House during the legislative session.

Legislators have been busy dealing with many controversial topics throughout the year, and Young expresses elation for several bills that were passed in the House. He highlights bills such as the teacher pay increase and decreasing the income tax rate to 3.8% as some of the bigger things he was extremely pleased about. Young also realizes that unexpected events happen, denoting the January 4th shooting at Perry High School. He pinpoints how the House took immediate action to respond.

“We wanted to make sure that we, right away, took action to make sure that Perry had the support they needed within the school fiscally with funds to make sure that we incentivized teachers to stay there and with that, we took a look at school security measures as well.”

The big discussion that was prompted after the shooting revolved around arming school staff employees, but Young stresses that the decision is up to the school boards. Overall, he feels like the session went well for the House.
