Senior Night was Monday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Greene County High School boys’ soccer team. Coach Carl Behne’s Rams were 10-0 winners vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines) to improve to 8-2 while the Thunder fell to 1-12. The contest ended with more than 34 of the 40 minute second half left due to the 10-goal margin rule.
Senior Gesser Gutierres, the leading scorer in all of Iowa high school boys’ soccer, scored six goals, putting him at 106 for his career and 37 this season. Senior Nathan Behne had two goals with one each by senior Kolby Angell and Manual Flores. The goal was the first of his varsity career for Floresl and his goal was the tenth and final one of the contest. Behne and sophomore Fredy Aguilar had three assists with two from senior Jack Hansen and one by Angell.
Senior Gabe Ebersole in goal had one save. Coach Behne told RaccoonValley Radio the all senior back line did a nice job and the ball rarely made it past the half line.
The last home appearance of the regular season for the Rams is tonight vs. Nevada. JV is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity match to follow. The regular season ends with a girl/boy doubleheader on May 10 vs. East Sac County in Wall Lake with the boys at 5:30 p.m. and the girls to follow.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association postseason pairings were announced yesterday and Greene County is the number 3 seed in Class 2A Substate 7. The Rams will host Panorama at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13 at Linduska Field in the opening round. That winner plays number two seeded Humboldt in Humboldt on May 20. Perry is the top seed and the Blue Jays will host either Grinnell or Ballard (Huxley). The Substate final is set for May 22 on the home field of the highest seeded team.
