The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

During reports, Superintendent Brett Abbotts talked about developing a five year master facilities plan. He said a survey was sent to all staff and there were 66 responses about what they think the goals and needs of the facilities should be. He also mentioned that the restroom project at Linduska Field has been put on hold, due to there not being progress made in one year. He also said that the district couldn’t purchase the softball field from the city, which owns it. Abbotts pointed out that there had to be several entities and it would take several months for land ownership to be changed.

The Board then approved four school driving permits for JJ Lawrence, Chase Fecher, Kai Byerly and Breana Pope; two fundraising requests as presented, adding five percent or $85,000 increase in salaries for educational support staff, a 2.5 percent increase in bus driver hourly wages for next school year as per the contract with the union, and increases in the substitute teacher daily rate to $150 and the long term sub rate to $180.52 for the 2024-25 school year. Additionally, the Board approved a resolution to renew the agreement to utilize services with the North Central Consortium School, a resolution to continue to participate in the instructional support program and set a public hearing for the June 12th meeting for the instructional support levy.

The Board also approved an engagement agreement with bond counsel Ahlers and Cooney for the solar panel project, and the 2025 fiscal year Region XII Council of Governments Western Iowa Transit System Service agreement. The meeting ended in a closed session for the quarterly superintendent evaluation.
