Track & field teams from high schools all across the state are hoping for favorable weather conditions today during State Qualifying Meets in all four classes of competition for girls and boys. Greene County is in a Class 2A meet in Manson while Paton-Churdan goes to a 1A meet at Earlham. Starting time for all meets is scheduled for 4 p.m.

In 2A, there are eight qualifying meets with first and second place finishers automatically qualifying for the May 16-17-18 Coed State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The rest of the field of 24 qualifiers is determined by comparing performances statewide for those placing third or lower. In 1A, there are 10 meets and only the event winner is automatically qualified for State competition. The field of 24 is filled with the 12 best performances statewide that did not place first.

Derek Merk is Greene County’s girls’ head coach and Chad Morton is the head coach of the boys’ program. Korey Jeschke is the girls and boys coach at Paton-Churdan.
