Tomorrow is the annual Greene County Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation banquet and auction.
Treasurer Fred Long says the event takes place at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds with a social time beginning at 5pm and the meal to be served by Lidderdale Country Store at 7pm. The live and silent auctions will then follow the meal.
Long points out some of the auction items include gift certificates to Tri-County Lumber, a Wild Rose Casino basket with money for the casino and restaurant and a one night stay at Cobblestone Inn and Suites. There will also be raffles where 11 firearms have been donated for that. Tickets for the raffles are between $10 and $20 depending on the raffle.
Long notes that the proceeds will be used for the national organization, along with the statewide board that helps the Iowa Department of Natural Resources purchase public land and improve existing public land, along with programs for youth, disabled and individuals looking to get back into hunting. He describes what he looks forward to the most during the annual fundraiser.
“My favorite part is the stuff we give to the kids because those kids are the future of hunting in Iowa. And this year I’ve got a bunch of box calls and pushpin calls, and things like that that every kid will go home with something that will make em happy.”
Tickets to the event are $50 per person, $65 for a couple, or a youth and/or a member from another chapter is $15. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door.
