With the several rainy days that have happened recently, Jefferson residents are reminded of the city’s grass ordinance.
According to the ordinance, grass length must not be taller than eight inches. City officials also remind residents when they mow their yards, to not let grass clippings onto the street. If grass clippings end up on the street, residents are asked to blow them back onto their yards or sweep them up.
Grass clippings end up in the storm sewer and plug intakes, which can lead to flooded roadways and it is a safety issue for motorcyclists as it can lead to reduced traction on tires. If city crews mow a homeowner’s yard, the homeowner will be charged a $200 hourly rate for a minimum of one hour.
