National Teacher Appreciation Week is wrapping up, and Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks credits all staff members for resilience during a challenging year.

Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he refers to the week as “Staff Appreciation Week,” because of the collective effort from everyone working together. He names teachers, paraeducators, bus drivers, and maintenance as a few examples. Wicks illustrates that although the Perry community has dealt with devastating news this year, the resiliency of the staff has been tremendous.

“With the support of each other and the support for students in the community, I think that we’re all healing, albeit different levels, but all staff are coming together to help each other, to help build each other up and I think it’s a great sign of character that we have in our Perry staff, and I think that’s why we are as successful as we are.”

Wicks also points to the school board as a difference maker with providing support for the staff. He expresses that the board has been delivering treats to the staff this week to recognize the celebratory week.
