Greene County played in the high school girls’ golf Class 3A Regional Tournament at Nishna Hills Golf Club in Atlantic on Wednesday. Coach Heath Telleen’s squad shot 437 for the 18 holes and placed tenth among 11 teams, thus ending the 2024 season. Gilbert won with an 18 hole score of 299, followed by Nevada 348, Sergeant Bluff-Lyton 368, Atlantic 370, Harlan 404, Denison-Schleswig 407, Carroll 418, Perry 418 (via tie-breaking fifth player score), Bishop Heelan (Sioux City) 423, Greene County 437, and Glenwood 454.

The low score for the Rams was 100 by sophomore Maya Telleen, followed by sophomore Taylor Johnston 110, senior Hallie Monthei 115, junior Maggie Mikkelsen 122, and sophomore Alivia Cornell 129.

Coach Telleen told Raccoon Valley Radio it was difficult to find golf balls in the long rough at Nishna Hills. “We made a lot of progress this year as individuals and as a team. Hallie Monthei will be difficult to replace next year. I am confident our four returning players will improve over the summer and we hope to recruit a few more athletes for next season,” he added.

Gilbert had six of the seven lowest scores on the day, including a sizzling score of 68.
