
The Adair – Casey (AC) and Guthrie Center (GC) School Boards met in regular session this week.
Both districts held public hearings regarding the 2023-24 amended certified budget, then moved into the regular session, with the AC Board meeting on Monday, and the GC Board meeting on Tuesday. AC/GC Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that the Boards then each heard a special presentation from Jen Betterton about the Distributive Education Clubs of America.
“This year we started up the DECA team and they’ve competed at the state level and regional level, and we had four that qualified for the national convention for DECA. And we had three students attend. Payton Jacobe, Natalie Kent and Emma Rutledge, along with Jen Betterton, their sponsor, went out to California and competed there at the national level.”
Rasmussen mentions that after the presentation, the AC Board approved one resignation and contract recommendations for summer school teachers and 2024-25 activity sponsors and extra duty contracts, while the GC Board approved the resignation of two teachers and contract recommendations for one teacher, 2024-25 activity sponsors and extra duty contracts and Activities Director Taylor Morris.
The Boards then discussed upcoming dates, with the Baccalaureate and Awards Night which happened May 15th, commencement and graduation on May 19th at 1pm and the next regular Board meeting on June 19th at 7pm. From there, Rasmussen says that the AC Board discussed Little Smiles and Company reimbursement and contract, technology and Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) and Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds. The GC Board discussed starting a dance team at the high school, technology and SAVE and PPEL funds.
Rasmussen explains the Boards then moved to action items. Both boards approved their respective 2023-24 amended certified budget, and Adair and Guthrie County Mitigation Plans. The AC Board also approved pay application number three for the junior high bleacher project, in the amount of $136,000, with the project nearing completion. The GC Board approved a room rental agreement with Heartland Area Education Agency, the Class of 2024 Graduate list and the Class of 2025 senior trip to Washington D.C. They also approved a Safety Grant Purchase for new phone systems and cabling, the printer and copier lease agreement, computer purchases for staff and students and disposal of some stand mixers and old computers.
