The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night,

The Council approved liquor licenses for Al’s Corner Oil and Apres Bar, a fencing permit for 301 Ordway Street and the multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan. They also approved the sale of City owned property, and heard from Rodney and Tammy Wise on keeping goats on their property, as Tammy had received a professional medical release allowing the goats as emotional support animals. The Council asked a few questions, then said that the City Attorney would need to review the issue before a final decision could be made.

City Clerk Kris Arrasmith shared she was working to address complaints about turkey vultures in town, then Compliance Officer Wes Clark shared a letter about a pair of dead ash trees on a property on North 4th Street, and shared that the property owners were getting quotes to have them taken down.

Public Works Superintendent Darin Sloss told the Council that the tornado siren at the Guthrie County Courthouse should be repaired soon, the electrical project at Mitchell Park was almost complete, and the dugouts at the little league fields were finished. He added that they’d begun filling the pool, but found it was leaking in the same spot it had last year, so they reached out to the repair company to get that fixed.

Arrasmith shared the City Hall Report, mentioning that the aquatic center is scheduled to open May 25th, with the pool manager and assistant manager having been hired. She added that the new shelterhouse at Mitchell Park was coming along nicely, and the new playground equipment should hopefully arrive soon. Arrasmith mentioned that they’d also started receiving sign-ups for the citywide cleanup and garage sales, and that the survey for a lot at 907 Main Street should be complete in the next week. The next Council meeting will be moved to Tuesday May 28th, as it would’ve fallen on Memorial Day beforehand.
