Drought conditions are steadily improving in the last few weeks within the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties are mostly abnormally dry. This is a slight improvement from the beginning of the month where all three counties were sitting in moderate drought. The Drought Monitor shows northern Dallas and Guthrie Counties are dealing with moderate drought, while moderate drought is affecting southern Greene County.

The state of Iowa has seen a healthy amount of rain early in the month of May with the National Weather Service reporting that Perry received 3.11 inches of precipitation so far, while Jefferson stands at 3.84 inches and Guthrie Center received 3.67 inches of rain.
