A new free informal gathering is happening later this week in Jefferson for anyone interested in songwriting.
Musician and Artist Chad Elliott of Elliott Art Studio is hosting a Songwriter Circle on Thursday from 7-9pm at his studio in Jefferson. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the workshop starts with him explaining how he writes songs and tips of the process he uses before opening it up to the group to share.
“Hopefully some other songwriters, it’s open to anybody really to come and listen to the conversation. But if you have a song, even if it’s just one song you’ve been holding onto, come (and) share it. There’s going to be a ‘no pressure situation’ you can even just listen (and) if you feel comfortable sharing, great. But, you’re going to be around other songwriters, hopefully, and it’s set in a circle so it’s informal. It’s going to be (a) really comfortable atmosphere.”
Elliott points out there are people coming from other areas of the state, some so far away that they booked a hotel room just to be at this Songwriter Circle. He also encourages individuals who attend to bring their instrument and perform parts of their song, and there will be a piano set up for people to use as well. Attendees are asked to bring their own chair and beverage, and no registration is required.
