The end of the 2023-24 school year is tomorrow for Greene County and Paton-Churdan School Districts.
Greene County Superintendent Brett Abbotts says the second half of the school year had a few challenges, including a kidnapping involving a biological parent taking his child from the elementary school without permission, among other situations. Abbotts reflects on the staff and administrators that he believes did an amazing job throughout the school year, especially during those more difficult times.
“You know the one thing that I’ll continuously be appreciative of again of our diligent staff, our hardworking staff, who continue to show up for our kids, show up and show up for our community. And then also having three incredibly strong principals who are making great decisions all the time to help support our students, and our families, and our staff to continue working through and grow.”
Abbotts points out the testing and assessment data is showing that the district is heading in the right direction with learning and educating students in the classrooms and the district’s finances are in a positive position.
As a reminder, Greene County Elementary will dismiss at 1:20pm, middle school at 1:25pm, and the earliest that high school students can be dismissed because of trimester testing is 11:44am. Paton-Churdan will be dismissing at 12:30pm on Friday.
