Many people will be out today for Memorial Day and Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill distributes tips to remember when it comes to safety.

Hill tells Raccoon Valley Radio that people should be mindful of putting grills inside the garage in the case of windy conditions outside. He encourages residents to keep grills far away from the garages or even close to houses.

“You always want to make sure you keep your grill and your slow-cookers, and things like that away from your garage or your homes. Be aware if you’re going to use one of those deep fat fryers for cooking something that has the meat coming right out of the refrigerator, put it directly into hot grease, and that’s what causes a lot of explosions.”

Hill also suggests keeping young children away from flammable grills as the fire can erupt quicker than people realize, and to have surroundings safe around the grill.
