The Iowa High School Athletic Association names a student athlete of the month every month.  The award recognizes one student-athlete who displays exceptional accomplishment in the areas of academics, athletics, and community service.  A Bluejay received that honor for the month of May.  Owen Myers was named the Iowa High School Athletic Association Student Athlete of the Month. Nominations may be submitted by principals, athletic directors, teachers, coaches, guidance counselors or other school administrators.

From Owen’s write up:

“Owen Myers is a junior, four-sport athlete at Perry High School.  Owen participates in Cross Country, Basketball, Track and Field, and Baseball.  He was a state qualifier in the 400M Hurdles at the 2023 State Track and Field Meet and participated in this year’s meet.  He has been named all-district in sports he participates in.

Owen carries a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the Perry National Honor Society, and has been named Academic All-Conference.  He is a Student Council officer, participates in Perry’s freshmen mentoring program, and Perry’s Big Buddy program.

Owen volunteers by coaching and officiating youth sports in his community, working with elementary students in the summer, and assisting the elderly in the winter.”
