Dallas Center – Grimes girls soccer knew they were in for a stingy contest in 2A State Semifinal play on Thursday afternoon against the North Scott Lancers, and after 80 hard fought minutes, DCG was able to survive and advance to the state championship winning 1-0. DCG moves to 17-3 while North Scott ends their season at 11-9.
The first half, DCG was able to create opportunity after opportunity but were unable to find the back of the net. That changed at the 19 minute mark when DCG was able to grab their lone goal from Kenna Knief from an assist from Hannah Renz.
In the second half, North Scott came out swinging the first fifteen minutes and putting DCG on their heels, but the Mustangs were able to stay calm and composed and deliver a dominating final twenty five minutes.
The Mustangs will be looking for their third consecutive state championship on Saturday when they take on the 19-1 and top overall seed in 2A in the North Polk Comets. The two teams have played seven times since 2014, with DCG winning 4 of those 7. They did not play each other this year, but did face each other in 2022 and 2023 and DCG won both of those matchups.
Kick time for the state final is at 5:30 pm from Cownie Sports Complex in Des Moines. You can listen to the game on KDLS and the KDLS app.
