The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session May 28th.

The Council approved a liquor permit renewal for Greater Guthrie Share Group, tobacco permits for Dollar General and Sparky’s One Stop, along with a fencing permit for the 1100 block of Main Street. They also approved the mural the Guthrie County Arts Council is planning to commission after hearing an update from the Arts Council, and approved a quote from Panora Fiber for a new anti-virus protection plan.

The Council then heard from City Clerk Kris Arrasmith that Adams County Electrical was working on repairs to one of the emergency sirens, and that she had directed them to order and install a transmitter to bring the siren to fully functional. The Council agreed with Arrasmith that following the Greenfield Tornado, it was of the utmost importance to have the siren in working order. They also approved quoted work to fix a heat pump motor and replace two other heat pumps at the Mary J Barnett Memorial Library, along with hearing on some quotes for a window replacement project at the library.

Clerk Arrasmith then gave an update on the buzzard mitigation process, noting that the City has received their permit for depredation of the buzzards, and that she would begin coordinating with the necessary parties to get the work done. She added that City Hall has been promoting the city wide garage sales and cleanup in June, with both events having great response.

Arrasmith continued by sharing that she’s received 10 applications for office staff and is preparing to begin interviews, along with news that the shelterhouse at Mitchell Park should be finished this week, along with the new playground equipment being delivered by the end of the week as well. She finished by saying that the survey for the lot at Main and 10th Streets has been completed and that the results should be recorded by the end of next week.
