With nicer weather moving in, many have begun to look for activities to do while outdoors.

Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that for those looking to camp, there are sites at Nations Bridge and Lenon Mills Parks, both county owned parks. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a few things that can be done while camping.

“Down at Nations Bridge, we have a volleyball net set up and a volleyball court that folks can play on. We’ve got several walking trails down at Nations Bridge. We have an interpretive trail that folks can scan a QR code and follow the trail and the signs, and kind of an educational type of trail.”

Both parks have river accesses, allowing for fishing and kayaking when water levels are high enough. For those just looking to get out and move around without camping, the Raccoon River Valley Trail is open to the public, with multiple trailheads in Guthrie County. Halterman states that for those who like to ride bikes on the trail, making a full loop is an option that would get them a roughly 70 mile ride in.
