
West Marshall (State Center) was a 7-3 Iowa high school softball winners on Friday vs. Greene County at the City Diamond on E Lincolnway. The Rams led 2-0 after one inning, but the Trojans scored the next seven runs before a bottom of the seventh run by Greene County for the final score.
WM is 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Rams have lost five of their last six and are 3-6 on the season and 2-3 in league play. Freshman Alaina Heard pitched all seven innings, allowing eight hits, two walks, and four batters hit with pitches. She recorded two strikeouts. The Rams had three errors, all in the outfield.
Freshman Sara Morlan singled and doubled and was the lone Ram with more than one hit. Junior Daniele Madsen had a run scoring double and Heard knocked in a run with a single. Freshman Bellah Johnson and freshman Addison Gannon each singled, and freshman Makenna Ebersole had a run batted in on a ground out.
Morlan turned in a dazzling U-6-3 double play and had another diving stop to get a force out at second. Sophomore Kaycee Pittman had a running back-handed catch on the warning track in left field.
Greene County next plays on Monday at Saydel High School in Des Moines.
