Friday night was an exciting one for Perry athletics and the softball team was looking to bounce back after a tough 7-0 loss against the PCM Mustangs. The Saydel Eagles got off to a good start getting to Maci Tunink in the first to across a run. They did the same thing in the second and both times Tunink was able to limit the damage to one.

A 2-0 ballgame going into the third inning meant the Jayettes had to respond. And respond they did. Their two-run rally started off with a walk to Kalley Whelchel. She was helped along by a sacrifice bunt and an error by the Saydel third basemen who threw the ball into right field and Whelchel was able to score on the play. Her sister Karagyn had a solid single up the middle and then Maci Tunink smashed one into center for an RBI and it tied the game at two apiece.

Unfortunately, the Eagles responded in a big way. After a leadoff base hit and then a fielder’s choice by the leadoff hitter. Colbie Tenborg stepped up to the plate and proceeded to crush a high fastball into left field for a two-run homer.

The Jayettes couldn’t respond until the sixth inning when it was Tunink again getting a base hit starting a rally. Emmalee Bell came up and proceeded to smash one past Tenborg at second for another RBI single. It was now a one run game going into the home half of the sixth.

It was the Eagles adding some insurance runs that put the game away. Once more Colbie Tenborg came to the plate and she lined another one into left field and using her speed was able to leg out a triple just beating the throw from Sydney Barkley in left. She ended her night with 3 RBIs and a double away from the cycle. It was a 6-3 Eagle lead making it very difficult to come back for the Jayettes. Even though they had a couple of hits they couldn’t do anything with it. A poor basreunning error caused a double play to end the game and it ended a disappointing night for the Jayettes.

Maci Tunink ended up pitching six innings and was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Jayettes. Perry will face off against the 6-1 West Marshall Trojans at home Monday night at 6 o’clock.
