A Greene County native has been hired as the new summer assistant with the Greene County ISU Extension.
Katrina Heupel is a 2023 Greene County High School graduate and just finished her freshman year at Iowa State University where she is majoring in event management. As the summer assistant, Heupel will be helping with Summer Program Coordinator Lizzy Allen’s summer camp programs and 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway with summer workshops, along with helping to run this year’s Greene County Fair. Heupel talks about why she wanted to be the summer assistant.
“I actually applied for the job last year and didn’t get it, so I was intrigued this year to try again and I love working with Sam. So that was a big part that made me want to apply as well.”
Heupel describes what she is looking forward to the most as the summer assistant.
“I think I’m looking forward to seeing the county fair come altogether because there’s just so many little tasks we’re taking care of right now and I’m excited to see it all come together.”
She is a former 4-H’er that showed a lot of static exhibits, including home improvement, photography, sewing and food and nutrition, along with showing sheep.
