Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has already gotten their fun lineup of June events started.

Youth Coordinator Rachel Blum says that they’ve already had a busy month, with at least three events over the last week. She says that they had a series of outdoor education camps at Springbrook State Park for different age groups, and tells Raccoon Valley Radio a little about the experience.

“Overall we had a really fun time. We went from hiking to kayaking to doing adventure team challenges, and we had three really nice days, so it was a good time to be outside and just explore nature.”

Blum mentions that the Extension has a 4-H event planned for June 11th, and on June 13th any county youths in 4th through 6th grades can come in and participate in their “Chef for a Day” program. She mentions that for this program, they will follow a recipe to make tacos and learn chopping skills, how to make taco seasoning from scratch and general ins and outs of the kitchen.
