Greene County and West Marshall played Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball in State Center last night with the home team winning by a score of 3-0. The Rams and Trojans were scheduled to play baseball in State Center, but wet grounds prompted that action to be moved back to June 27, assuming umpires can be found.
The softball Trojans entered the game with just one conference loss and are now 17-4 overall. The Rams fell to 3-9 in the HOIAC and 4-13 overall. Ram head coach Tom Kennedy watched his team play a much cleaner game than had been the case as of late with just two errors. The offense wasn’t as on target as usual, but the pitching and defense were improved over the last several outings. Junior Daniele Madsen doubled and junior Payton Kokenge singled for the only hits for the Rams. Freshman Alaina Heard pitched a complete game for the Rams with the Trojans scoring single runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings. Only two of the WM runs were earned and Heard allowed six hits and no walks. The Trojans were hit by a pitch once and Heard recorded two strikeouts.
The Rams play tonight in Carroll vs. Hawkeye 10 Conference member Kuemper Catholic in non-conference JV/varsity action.
