The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School Boards met in a joint session Tuesday night.

Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that in his report, he covered progress of the replacement of some air handling units (AHU), stating that the project was actually ahead of schedule. He mentions that the Board also approved several contract recommendations for coaching and teaching staff, along with discussing their final tax rates for the 2024-25 school year.

“Our tax rate at Adair – Casey dropped. Our original certified rate was $10.17 (per $1,000 of property valuation), it dropped down to $9.87. So we saw a decrease there with the 2.5 (percent) SSA (State Supplemental Aid) increase. And for Guthrie Center, our original certified rate was $12.84 (per $1,000 of property valuation), and that dropped down to $12.56, so we saw a decrease there also.”

Rasmussen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the Boards also approved 2024-25 operational sharing agreements, teacher 28E agreements, bread and milk bids, board memberships, Teacher Leadership and Compensation contracts and employee handbooks. He adds that they also increased fitness center membership prices from $100 to $150 per family, to help build up some funds for the maintenance and replacement of equipment in the facilities.

Rasmussen explains that the AC Board approved the purchase of kitchen equipment, disposal of obsolete equipment, trade of the compact utility tractor, and the fourth pay application for the junior high bleacher project. He says that the GC Board approved the purchase of a pressure washer, and the formation of a high school dance team, and will now begin looking for a sponsor or coach, as there were several students that wished to form a team.
