The Dallas County Health Department is helping older residents out with a program.

Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the health department is teaming up with Aging Resources of Central Iowa to recruit older adults for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition program. She highlights that the program provides an amount of $50 to income eligible seniors at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. Peters explains that nearly 200 seniors have registered for the program in Dallas County so far.

“Our department has signed up over 160 people for the program so far this year, and will continue to do so throughout the summer, so there’s been a pretty good amount of interest in our community.”

Peters mentions that in order for residents to become eligible for the nutrition program, they must be 60 years of age or older, live in Dallas County, and have a yearly income at or below $27,861 for single individuals or a combined household income of less than $37,814 for married couples. Peters implores people to contact the Dallas County Health Department to learn more with a health navigator at (515)-993-3750.
