The last two weeks of the high school baseball and softball regular seasons for the Greene County Rams lie ahead, and reducing the number of errors committed in both sports is a goal for down the stretch. Wins on the ball diamonds have been sparse, and errors have been a factor in the loss column being larger than the win column. The Rams are 4-14 in softball and 1-13 in baseball.
The final games in recent days are an example. Ram baseball lost on Friday on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com to the Carroll Tigers at Merchant’s Park in Carroll by a final of 8-4. Five Greene County errors led to six unearned runs. The softball Rams last played on Thursday, also in Carroll, against the Lady Knights of Kuemper Catholic, losing 5-4. That game saw the home team score three unearned runs, including the tying run with two outs in the sixth, and the winning run with two outs in the seventh inning on errors by the Rams.
Greene County hosts Saydel (Des Moines) on Monday in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play with JV/Varsity baseball at Allensworth Field and softball at the City Field along E. Lincolnway. Softball is varsity only at 6 p.m. with play-by-play on KG98 and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
