An investigation was recently started by State Auditor Rob Sand to look into an incident involving the Dexter Public Library.
Sand tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the auditor’s office was given a tip from a member from the Dexter Library board after the former Library Director Mary McColloch resigned. A witness reported that McColloch was taking paperwork from the library and putting it in her personal vehicle. According to a press release from Sand, it was found that there was $13,589.50 of undeposited funds and he shares more from the findings.
“We had just shy of $4,000 that the director paid to herself that was above and beyond what she was supposed to be earning. And we also had over $10,000 of funds that were supposed to be going into the library, that instead were being diverted to a nonprofit account that she was running called something like the Dexter Betterment Association.”
Sand mentions that the auditor’s office has handed the report off to the county attorney and the attorney’s general office and comments that either of them can review it and make any necessary determinations about possible criminal charges.
