The Jefferson Police Department is reminding residents about the fireworks ordinance.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says fireworks are still illegal to shoot off within city limits.
“That would not include sparklers, snakes, that type of novelty item that you can buy at Dollar General or somewhere. But anything that you buy from a fireworks stand or that type of item is going to be illegal in the city of Jefferson.”
Clouse points out that state law does allow temporary fireworks tents to be in town, with a permit, to sell all types of fireworks, but people within Jefferson city limits are not allowed to shoot those off. He adds if an officer catches you lighting fireworks, you might get a warning and the rest of the fireworks are confiscated, or you could face a citation and a fine.
