Thursday night the Greene County High School softball team will meet PCM for the third time this season, and for the second time in Monroe. The Mustangs were 20-3 entering this week and they are the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champions and have won the first two meetings from the Rams. The teams will play in the opening round of Class 3A regional play with the winner advancing to a semifinal on Saturday night and the losing team having its season come to an end.
Greene County head coach Tom Kennedy knows his 4-19 squad is the underdog vs. the eighth ranked team in 3A. “We’ll need to play our best and hope we get some breaks along the way,” he said. The Rams have no seniors and only two or three juniors in their lineup. As many as six freshmen have started at times. Pitcher Alaina Heard and catcher Makenna Ebersole are among the ninth graders who have started all season long for the Rams.
Game time is 7 p.m. and coverage will start after 6:30 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www. raccoonvalleyradio.com.
