On Tuesday, July 16th Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the state’s Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program received Federal Emergency Management Agency approval, and was open for applications.

Reynolds shared that over eight weeks, more than 5,000 homes had been impacted by three extreme weather systems, and it’s estimated that 2,000 of those homes have been destroyed or deemed uninhabitable. This program is open to homeowners in counties currently under a federal disaster declaration, which includes Adair County.

Temporary housing that may be provided includes recreational vehicles and travel trailers, and will be provided for no cost to Iowans for up to six months to those whose homes were destroyed, heavily damaged or deemed uninhabitable. Homeowners must have filed a claim with their insurance company and received either final approval or denial of the claim. They must have also first applied for FEMA disaster assistance to be eligible, and steps to do so can be found below.

Applications for temporary housing may be filled out at the link provided here. A call center is also available for those Iowans who may not have access to a computer, or may need general assistance, and is open every day of the week.
