New RAGBRAI Logo for the Greenfield stop

The biggest bicycling event for the state of Iowa is underway.

Tomorrow, the bicyclists taking part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will make their way through Adair County, with Greenfield being the midday stop. The route through Greenfield has changed since the city was originally chosen as a stop, allowing bicyclists to tour through areas that were in the path of the May 21st tornado that devastated a mile long stretch of the town in a minute.

RAGBRAI Ride Director Matthew Phippen says that the new route was chosen to help keep bicyclists on the designated route, as they believed that they would have gone off route to tour the damage one way or another. He adds that RAGBRAI has been working closely with the town to make sure that if there was any assistance they could provide, they would be able to should it be asked for. A map of the new route through Greenfield can be found on the Adair County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
