University of Northern Iowa track & field decathlete Carter Morton from Jefferson told Raccoon Valley Radio he plans on competing a sixth year for the Panthers. Morton, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate, medically redshirted both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2023-24 due to ankle surgery last November.

Morton explains his situation. “I medically redshirted both indoors and outdoors, so if I had competed in a meet either season, I would have lost eligibility for that season. So I worked out and rehabbed and trained, but did not compete for UNI.”

His plan is to compete for the Panthers in both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, which he is allowed to due because of the medical redshirt and the option of using the COVID year of eligibility, which 2020 high school graduates are allowed to do on the collegiate level.
