Many counties have already finished or are holding their County Fairs now, and announcing results for those who will advance to the Iowa State Fair.
Guthrie County is a bit unique though, in the fact that the Guthrie County Fair happens on Labor Day weekend, after the State Fair. Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Summer Intern Tucker Carlson says that they hold a static exhibit day before the Iowa State Fair every year, with this year’s being July 15th. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what they did that day.
“In the morning, we had our Clover Kids, and our fashion (show), and our table setting, so we did those right off the bat. And then in the afternoon we did our regular static (exhibits) with our home improvement, our baking, our ag(riculture) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), our photography, kind of those big things. And we had the judges judge them all day long.”
Carlson mentions that now that the events have been judged, individuals will be notified if they were chosen to advance if they haven’t already. He adds that there were 30 static exhibits that will be going to the State Fair, along with some from the fashion and table setting exhibits.
