The public is invited to see how cover crops work with a special program.

There is a Cover Crop Field Day planned for this coming Wednesday at 9am at the farm in southern Greene County. Attendees can learn about diverse cover crop mixes, see a rainfall simulator demonstration, how technology helps with application of cover crops with the use of drones, and funding opportunities with state, federal and private options available.

Additionally, there will be several Natural Resources Conservation Service experts with the US Department of Agriculture, along with Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) co-hosting this event with landowner Tammy Deal.

She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that after using cover crops on her own fields for a few years, she wanted to have a public event where farmers and other landowners could find out about the benefits and varieties that cover crops provide. Iowa Cover Crop Co-Owner Bill Frederick will lead the program.

Pre-registrations were requested by contacting the Greene County SWCD at 515-386-3817 extension 3. The location for the Cover Crop Field Day event is the corner of K Avenue or County Road P-18 and 100th Street.
