One Greene County 4-H’er earned second place in the state for her livestock at a recent competition.
Emmalin Wright was named Reserve Champion Breeding Ewe at Sunday’s All Iowa Showdown. This was the first time Wright had qualified for the statewide competition after advancing to the regional show at the Heartland Throwdown every year for five years. Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says it’s quite a feat to qualify for the All Iowa Showdown, but to place second among the ten qualifiers for breeding ewe is a huge accomplishment. She congratulates Wright on her great work and representing Greene County.
The fifth year 4-H’er is going to the Iowa State Fair, where youth do not need to qualify, but just register to show livestock. Wright says she is taking not only her seven month old ewe Missy, but also her market lamb, where she was the Reserve Champion Market Lamb at this year’s county fair. Two years ago, Wright says she earned third overall breeding lamb at the state fair, but has her sights set higher this year.
“To try to do our very best, to win champion (breeding lamb).”
The Iowa State Fair is August 8th-18th.
